Leh -Indus Valley - Alchi - Lamayuru - Khardung La - Nubra
Leh, a district in Jammu& Kashmir is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on this earth that attracts many people towards itself every year. Bikers plan special on road journey on their bikes which they say is an exhilarating experience. This 9 days and 8 night journey will take you through some most amazing as well as beautiful destinations. You will also get a chance to visit some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries as well as a mosque built by Mughal emperor Aurangeb.
Arrive at Leh, and meet the representative IHPL who will assist you in getting transferred to the Hotel. For the rest of the day, get accustomed to the high altitude of Ladakh. Evenings are free to visit the local bazaar. Stay overnight at the Hotel
Book your day 2, for sight seeing after breakfast. Visit Sankar Gompa (earl;ier the residence of the late head priest-Kushak Bakula) , Shanti Stupa (a monastery with Japanese touch in the architecture and has clean rooms for meditation) and Leh Palace (.built in 17th century, now deserted, but taken up by ASI for renovation work) Evening free to walk around the bazaar. Overnight at hotel in Leh.
After breakfast, hit the road for Thiksey village, visiting Thiksey (one of the most beautiful monasteries, has various temples) monastery and then drive to Shey Village for visiting Shey Palace and Gompa (once residence of the royal family. It also has a high Buddha statue plated with gold). Then proceed to Hemis monastery for visiting one of the most famous monasteries of Ladakh. once you are returning back to Leh, enroute visit Stok Palace and Museum (a museum displaying costumes and jewelry of the royaltyand also Thankas representing the life style of Shakya Muni. Once you are back, take rest in your hotel room. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
On day 4, have your breakfast and drive off to Alchi carrying packed lunch. On the way visit, Magnetic Hill (it is said that a vehicle parked on this metallic road in neutral gear, slides up-hill, Confluence of Zanskar and Indus river, Basgo Fort (it was the seat of power of branch of a Namgyal family )and Likir Monastery (was founded in the 11th century but the version which one now sees was rebuilt in 18th century). Once you arrive there, visit Alchi Monastery (this monastery is almost 1000 years old). Dinner and overnight at hotel / camp in Alchi.
Early morning, start drive to Lamayuru that is famous for its ancient monastery and the surrounding landscape that resembles the surface of the moon. (Thus Ladakh gets its name ‘The Moonland’). Later pay a visit to the Rizong monastery (a paradise for Meditation) and Chulichan nunnery(Home to around 20 nuns. Also provides food and clothes to the monks who perform prayers). Now drive back to Leh. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
On the early morning of day 6, proceed to Nubra Valley through the World Highest Motorable road (5602 Mts) Khardungla pass. Once you reach there, by noon, check in at the Hotel / Camp. Evenings are free. O/N.
Today is booked for siteseeing, proceed for a visit to the White Sand Dunes at Hunder. Enjoy the camel ride , if you want to. Visit Hunder (one of the smallest monasteries) and Diskit monasteries(built in 1420 AD, around 100 monks reside here;.. In the evening trek to Samstaling Monestry (This 132 years old monastery has very strict rules). Staying overnight at the hotel / the camp.
On day 8, have your breakfast, and proceed for Leh, via Khardungla pass again. In the evening, you can visit the local market of Leh and visit Leh Jokhang (built in 1957, also has a crowned statue of Lord Buddha, Joyo Rinpoche) or Leh Mosque (built in 1666-67, after an agreement between Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and Ladakhi ruler Deldan Namgyal) by foot. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Today, leave on time for the Leh airport for boarding the flight to Delhi.
